This article was inspired by my amazing body cleansing experience which I did as an online program with Lisa and Charlotte, two wonderful nutritionists from Ultimate Rejuvenation Cleanse.
Lisa Mayer, a Holistic Health Coach, asked me to write something for the participants of the program that relates to home and cleansing. So here it is.
Part 1 Spring Home Detox
Our energy is interconnected with the energy of our home. One feeds and influences the other. Our homes reflect whether we are happy, balanced and healthy, or depressed, lonely and stuck. Spring is a great time to do both body cleanse and renew the energy in your home!
As we go through this body cleanse program it would be really good to consciously change a few things in our environment to support the vibrant, light and joyful state that is emerging as a result of this cleanse. Because if our home doesn’t have a similar vibe, it is very likely that sooner or later we will be pulled back into the same patterns that we are trying to break out of.
One of the main contributors to energetic toxicity in the home is clutter. This can be a small issue for some and a huge issue for others. Decluttering is not my specialty, but I am very familiar with it from the feng shui perspective. I assure you that clearing even a few areas will make a difference and it will be very much worth the time and effort. People report feeling lighter, freer, having more energy and more joy. Clutter often blocks certain aspects of our lives and when cleared things start flow and new opportunities show up.
Clutter contributes to:
- Stress and feeling heavy physically and emotionally
- Depression and feeling stuck
- Excess body weight
- A sense of chaos in life
- Feelings of guilt and low self-esteem
If I would have to name 3 areas where you will be affected by clutter the most it would be your entry way, your kitchen and your bedroom.
1) The entryway effects the energy of the whole building. This is the place where energy enters and distributes throughout the house. Keeping it free of clutter will enable better flow and circulation of energy. The entrance also gives the first impression when entering a house. When it is cluttered and disorganized, people report feeling unwelcome, anxious, irritated and stressed.
Examples of clutter:
- Too many coats or shoes, especially old and worn out ones that you haven’t worn for several years
- A pile of mail on your entryway table
- Any other random things that do not belong in this area
2) The kitchen relates to health and nourishment. Having a well-organized, well-lit, spacious and beautiful kitchen is guaranteed to promote better health, mood and overall happiness for you and your family. After remodeling my own kitchen I’ve noticed that having a more beautiful and better organized space gives me joy, satisfaction and makes me want to spend more time experimenting with healthy meals.
Examples of clutter:
- Old food in the fridge
- Expired cans and old pasta or grain in your pantry
- Expired supplements and vitamins
- Mail on the kitchen counters
- Dishes that you never liked and will probably never use
- A collection of recipes that you will never use
- Broken things or things with missing parts
3) The bedroom represents your inner self and your relationships. Having clutter in your bedroom will not only affect the quality of your sleep, but your self-esteem and your relationship.
Examples of clutter:
- Any object that you don’t love
- Too many books or magazines
- Boxes of stuff under the bed
- Old clothes and socks in the closet and drawers
- Partially used old make-up
Clutter in your living room will affect your quality time and relationship with your family. Clutter in the basement relates to feeling stuck and heavy. Clutter in the attic will affect your clarity. Basically, any object that you don’t love, don’t use or feel obligated to keep is considered to be clutter.
I hope that I’ve inspired you enough to clear a few areas of your home. For those rare and lucky individuals who don’t have any clutter, I promise the next part will be more exciting as I will address how to further shift the energy of your home to facilitate positive change.
Part 2 Spring Home Rejuvenation
After you’ve completed your decluttering a Space Clearing is a great way to get rid of old energetic patterns, stagnation and any kind of negativity. A Space Clearing will invite positive and supportive energy that is aligned with your goals and aspirations. If you are not familiar with the concept of a Space Clearing, here are a few simple things you can do yourself.
It’s easy, fun and pretty effective!
1) Open the windows on a sunny day and let fresh air come in
2) Play your favorite music loudly for a few hours
3) Use some loud clapping or drumming in the room that feels the most stagnant. You can clap your bed, your sofa, chair, etc.
4) Smudge the house with herbs, resins or incense.
* In my opinion sage is overused. Its vibration is too strong–it is a heavy duty tool and not appropriate for every home or every situation. It can even lower the vibration of your home. Lighter resins and incense are more appropriate in most situations. If you are interested in this, explore some copal or frankincense resins.
5) If smudging doesn’t sound easy, you can spray a solution of essential oil and water. Get a spray bottle and dissolve approximately 50 drops in ½ cup of water. I like grapefruit in the kitchen and living room and rose or lavender in the bedroom
6) Bring flowers, light candles, meditate or sit down, relax and contemplate on or write down your aspirations
Feng Shui tips for those who wants to take it a step further
1) Introducing Wood and Water elements in the east section your of home will enhance your health and family relationships. For Wood you can add some healthy, vibrant plants or add some green colors. A picture of water would be quite appropriate in the east as Water supports Wood. Just make sure that there is no clutter or broken furniture inside or broken trees or fences outside on your property in the east.
2) The center of your home relates to the health of the whole household. Earth and Fire are elements that will help bring vibrant new energy into your home and life. Art with vibrant red, yellow or orange colors is a great choice as well as pottery, ceramic or clay dishes.
3) Adding red and yellow colors in the kitchen will facilitate change and bring joy and enthusiasm. It can be added with kitchen accessories, pots, pans, dish towels, fruit bowls and art.
Happy spring home rejuvenation!
