The Rat is the beginning of a new cycle. It is the first sign in the 12 Animal Zodiac and it has qualities of leadership and new beginnings. The Rat is considered to be strong, resourceful and visionful. People born in the year of the Rat enjoy positions of power, have strong communication skills, influential, loyal and are good in acquiring wealth. They appear to be confident but can harbor some deep fears and anxiety. Some of these qualities will be present in the energy of this year.

The yearly elemental composition of 2020 is Yang Metal, which represents a warrior or a sword and Water which is a strong element on its own. Put together, both elements create a mighty force. We may expect some powerful changes and tensions throughout the year. This might be a year of clarity, big decisions and career moves. Not a restful, nice and sleepy kind of year, but a year of action that requires will. I picture it as big waves that sweep the shore of accumulated junk. What is left behind is a clean, renewed, open space. So we can start fresh and new. If this resonates with you and you want this fresh start you may want to ask yourself what is it you don’t need and most importantly don’t want in your life anymore. Along with material things that no longer serve you, ask yourself if there are any areas that may need some reviewing and letting go of, including unhealthy habits, unfulfilling jobs, unsupportive relationships and too much time on social media.

The animal signs that have harmonious relationship with the Rat are Ox, Dragon, Monkey and Dog. They may feel more supported throughout the year. The Horse might have a challenging year but it is a year of change for them and things like moving their house or office, changing jobs or lots of travels are supported. The Rabbit may have to face some health challenges so they will need to be more conscious about their diet, exercise and stress levels. However, as usual, for you to see a bigger and more precise picture it is best to do your full Bazi or Four Pillars of Destiny astrology which takes into consideration the relationship between the current year and your year, month, day and time of birth.

If you had your cures placed for 2019, remove them at the end of January. If they worked well for you then it’s likely that they absorbed some negative energy and should be discarded or recharged to remain effective. As always, use your intuitive judgment whether you need to buy new items or cleanse and reuse the ones you have.

Here is how to recharge your Feng Shui items:
Rinse them under running water, dry them with paper towels and smudge them with an uplifting incense, like Frankincense. Alternatively, after rinsing you can put them on a tray outside for 24 hours under the moon and sun. Choose a day when it is not cloudy. Partially cloudy is fine.

You can place your cures for 2020 any time on or after February 4th.

AUSPICIOUS STARS

8-The Most Auspicious Prosperity and Wealth Star is visitingthe NW this year. This Wealth Star has the potential to bring new wealth opportunities, success and happiness. Besides Helpful People, NW relates to the father of the family, also a breadwinner, male or female. The visiting Star will support them well this year. You can add a Wealth Buddha or any other more personal symbolic representation of wealth in this sector of your home. Crystals and coins are very beneficial and welcome here too. Make sure you combine the placement of these items with your intention for the prosperity and success. Putting together a few items for a Wealth Altar and lighting a candle or incense there is a very good practice. This will help to keep energy alive and active there.

9-Future Prosperity Multiplying Star will reside in the W. This Star relates to fame, joy and future prosperity. W relates to children, especially the youngest daughter. This Star has a fiery nature so a small red item is appropriate to place there, but the ruling element of the W is Metal so do not over decorate this area with reds. You can also place 9 coins there as an alternative to reds or any symbol of wealth that is meaningful to you.

1-Lucky White Star will be flying to the NE. This Star relates to career, leadership, promotion and business success. It is a Wealth Water Star and regarded as a Victory over competition Star. The Earth which is the element of the NE is not in a harmonious relationships with Water, it diminishes Water. If you want to give your career a boost and support a promotion I would recommend placing a symbol of what you want to achieve rather than Water element in this sector. Hanging a crystal would be appropriate too. A traditional Chinese cure is a Victory Banner. Also remember there are several other areas in your home or office that you can work on to enhance your wealth and career prospects.

6-Favorable Heaven Star moves into the SE. This star brings luck and good fortune, especially of a speculative kind, for example, investment luck or mentor luck.  Sometimes it is referred to as an unexpected Windfall Star. The nature of the SE is Wood and this star is of a Metal nature. Metal and Wood drain each other, therefore the most appropriate cures would be adding Six Coins or hanging a crystal in the window.

4-Romance and Scholastic Star is inthe SW. This Star brings new romantic opportunities and luck to those pursuing studies. This is a Wood Star, but best not to add any Wood element to the SW as it interferes with a female health. A symbol of love such as a picture or figurine or 2 pieces of rose quarts will be best.  And if you need to get extra support for your kids’ studies you can add an object that represents achievements in education.

AFFLICTIONS STARS

5-Yellow, the most challenging Star visiting the E this year. This influence is associated with troubles, financial loss, illness, accidents and obstacles. East relates to Family, Health and the First Son.

It is a Yellow Earth Star, therefore the ill effects are neutralized with a strong Metal element. The best way to diminish this influence is to hang a large to medium size six-rod metal wind chime outside, in the east of your property.  If east is the direction your house is facing or, if your front door, kitchen, bedroom or back door are in the E, you may need some additional cures and balancing of the Five Elements. If your bedroom is in the E and you have some health issues, it is advised to move into an alternative bedroom if at all possible. If your front door is in the E and you have an alternative door then use that door more often.

Additional remedies include the Five Element Pagoda, Six Coins, Wu Lou and metal clocks. Remove all Earth and Fire décor elements from the E. There should not be too much Fire or Earth element in the E to begin with as those elements are not compatible with the E. The Water element and plants are good there.

It is advised to keep the area quiet and do not do any remodeling or construction or digging the earth in the E to disturb the energy. Planting flowers is ok, but do not plant red or yellow flowers. Blues or whites are best in the E this year.

2-Illness Star will occupythe S sector of a building this year.
It is a Black Earth Star so Metal element is used to drain its influence. Traditional remedies include Wu Lou, Six Coins or a medicine Buddha. You may also use any metal statue of a deity of your spiritual tradition.Avoid using Fire and Earth elements in the area this year as they will strengthen this malevolent influence. Fire is the native element of the S, therefore you may need to remove some objects that would strengthen this Star. It is advised to keep the S quiet and do not do any remodeling or construction to disturb the energy. If your bedroom is in the S and you have some health issues, it is advised to remedy it well or even move to an alternative bedroom. If your front door or family room or kitchen is in the S, you may need additional cures. Also S is a middle daughter’s sector of the Bagua, so if your daughter’s room happen to be in the S, it is a good idea to place remedy in her room as well.

3-Argumentative Star flies to the N this year.
It is a Wood Star and can bring arguments, stress, misunderstandings and legal problems. If your bedroom is in the N expect more arguments and tension. The Fire element is used to counteract this influence. However, the nature of the north is Water and if you place too much Fire there will be a clash. Instead of using reds place something small, like a red envelope or a talisman instead. If you are currently having a litigation, then you may need some additional cures and balancing of the elements.

7-Loss Star moves to the center. This Star brings tension, stress, loss and even robbery. And because it is a center of the house or office, the entire household or business is affected if not remedied. It is a Metal Star and it will diminish the Earth element of the center.  Because the center also relates to health, it may contribute to health problems. The Water element will minimize this influence, but the Water is not a good element for the center. Therefore a talisman should be used. A traditional cure for this influence is a pair of Rhinoceroses as they considered to be protectors or a plaque with a Rhino and an Elephant image that you can hang on the wall.

ADDITIONAL ANNUAL AFFLICTIONS (SHAR CHI) AND RENOVATION RULES

Three Killings is in the S (157.5°-202.5°)

Avoid sitting in your office facing N this year since your back will be exposed to this negative influence and you will be offending the Grand Duke at the same time. Three celestial guardians or one Pi Yao are used to suppress this affliction.

Grand Duke Jupiter (Tai Sui) is in the N (352.5°-7.5°).

Display a Tai Sui talisman in the room that is affected or carry it with you if you are born in the year of the Rat and the Horse. It is recommended not to sit facing N this year.

Both afflictions can bring legal problems, accidents and potential injuries and they are not to be taken lightly if your front door, office or bedroom are in those sectors. It is advised to avoid renovation or substantial construction in these areas.

Wishing you a prosperous, healthy and happy year, supported by the Rat!
