Happy Spring!
Spring is a very special time of the year. Our body and soul want to follow the opening and movement of energy in nature and crave rejuvenation. While we can give our body some green detox smoothies and more nature walks, our home needs some boost and rejuvenation too. I wanted to share with you a few things from my spring home cleaning routine.
Spring is such a good time to lighten our load and renew our energy. Especially good to do in the next couple of weeks here in the northern part of the US or Europe, before it gets warm enough to spend more time outside.
Here is what I do every spring
1) I clean and wipe all my winter footwear and put it away. My entryway closet is not too big, so I rotate my seasonal footwear. It feels really good when my boots are all clean and ready for the next season.
2) I hand wash and put away all my winter cashmere sweaters, scarfs and hats. If there are sweaters or other winter clothes that I didn’t wear this winter and maybe two or three winters before :), I put them in a box or garbage bag and drive them away to any appropriate donation place. It feels awesome to lighten up my shelves and give my clothes a new chance to be enjoyed by someone else.
3) I wipe down baseboards and doors with some soapy water/vinegar solution. I do have a cleaning person that helps me regularly, but it does feel good to do some of this stuff myself. Something good happens energetically when I clean it myself once in a while. It feels like the house responds with some extra spark of happiness.
4) I wash the windows. Yes, I know, it is a big one! But I always notice the difference in my home’s energy when the windows are clean. It feels like my own energy expands as a result. I know it is not the easiest job if your windows are older. My home’s windows are medium-old, so it takes me about 2-3 hours altogether, so often I break it into two sessions. I don’t use harsh chemicals like Windex, but vinegar-based glass cleaner from Whole Foods, brand 365.
5) I love fresh air in my home, especially now, after the winter. I have to admit, even during the winter I open the windows on some warmer days, but now my bedroom windows can stay open for hours. It smells so good and fresh! I sleep better as a result. There are many reasons some people are having trouble with their sleep, and polluted inside air is one of them.
6) If you feel that you have some clutter in your bedroom, kitchen or anywhere else, do not wait too long before you address it. Otherwise, it takes your precious energy to think about it and then takes even more energy to decide to do it. I know it bothers you and sometimes it bothers you a lot. Lots of wasted energy! Believe me, you are not going to lose much if you let go of things, but you are going to gain a lot.
7) Reward is absolutely necessary after all the work! Buy yourself some spring flowers or potted bulbs that are about to bloom. Shop for a new spring door wreath. Here are a few beauties from etsy.com for your inspiration.
I do those things not because I have to do them, but because I want to do them. I have to admit, I am a bit of a “feeling good junkie”! Over the years I figured it out what makes me feel good and this is why I do it.
Please share in the comments section below what things you do routinely in the spring that makes you feel good. I would love to learn and I am sure we all will benefit!
Lots of Love and Happy Spring!
